NTAP's funding has historically come from the Legal Services Corporation Technology Initiative Grants (TIG). NTAP is pursuing additional options for funding in 2007.
2001: Technology Assistance and Consulting -- The Legal Services Corporation funded a grant for the National Technology Assistance Project (NTAP) to the Legal Aid Society of Orange County. This grant was for $200,000 for two years. The main goal of the project was to provide technology consulting and assistance to legal aid programs who received large-scale technology initiatives in order to help their efforts succeed. Staff for the NTAP project worked as a consultant through the Legal Aid Society of Orange County.
2002: Training Grant -- Through the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, NTAP applied and received funding from LSC for its Training Grant.
2003: Open Source Circuit Riding -- Through the Legal Aid of East Tennessee, NTAP received funding for the Open Source Template Statewide Website Circuit Rider. This project strived to help the then-17 states using the Open Source website platform to develop statewide legal websites for clients, advocates, and pro bono lawyers. NTAP also renewed funding for its Training Grant through the Lone Star Legal Aid.
2004: Training & Circuit Riding -- NTAP renewed its funding for the Circuit Rider through the Legal Aid of East Tennessee and for the Training Grant through Lone Star Legal Aid in Texas.
2005: LegalMeetings and GIS -- NTAP renewed its funding for the Circuit Rider through Legal Aid of East Tennessee, and for the Training Grant through Montana Legal Services Association. NTAP also applied for and received the LegalMeetings Web Conferencing project through Center for Arkansas Legal Services. In addition, Legal Aid of East Tennessee contracted with NTAP to complete prior national grants: Poverty Law Survey Tool and Research Request Tool. In addition, Legal Aid of East Tennessee was awarded a National GIS Mapping Project, which it contracted in part for NTAP's assistance.
2006: NTAP became its own nonprofit and changed its name to Legal Services NTAP (LSNTAP). It took over the management of the former LStech.Org (another prior TIG project from 2001-2003) and renamed the website LSNTAP.Org. As a nonprofit, entities could now contract directly.
NTAP renewed its funding for Circuit Riding (Legal Aid of East Tennessee), LegalMeetings (Center for Arkansas Legal Services), and Training (Montana Legal Services Association). NTAP also applied and received funding for the Cyber Piracy project through Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Maine. Through Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, NTAP also received a small grant for the LSNTAP.Org and Survey Tool projects. Lastly, NTAP received funding from Legal Services of South Central Michigan to co-manage a Legal Services XML and RSS project.
Non-LSC TIG Funding: NTAP structured the LegalMeetings project to generate fees based on use that subsidize the license costs.
2007: NTAP is applying for renewal grants for Training (Montana Legal Services Association), Circuit Riding (Tennessee), LSNTAP.Org (Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation), and LegalMeetings (Center for Arkansas Legal Services). In partnership with Legal Aid of East Tennessee, NTAP is also applying for a Research Request Tool and GIS Mapping grant.
