What other resources should I consider?

  • If you are located in North Carolina, consider these local resources:
    • Contact Legal Aid of North Carolina (State-wide) or Pisgah Legal Services (Asheville) to see if you qualify for free services
    • The NC State Bar’s page on Finding a Lawyer can help you identify which type of lawyer you may want and search for a local attorney.
    • The North Carolina Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service costs $50 for an initial 30-minute consultation with an attorney.
    • Law Help NC provides plain language legal help information, interactive self-help tools and connections to local legal and community resources that empower Ohioans to resolve their legal issues
    • NC Free Legal Answers is a virtual legal advice clinic in which qualifying users can ask civil legal questions at no cost to be answered by pro bono attorneys licensed in their state.
  • Resources for all locations in the US:
    • Visit the government’s website USA.gov for a comprehensive listing of resources
    • Many state bar associations offer a “Find a Lawyer” service which may have a low cost or free consultation. Search by location in the American Bar Association's directory
    • You might also search for legal “self-help” centers in your state or region which are typically connected to either the court (government) system or a legal aid non-profit
    • Use LSNTAP's list of law libraries that are open to the public
    • Refer to LSNTAP's list of websites with helpful resources
