New Guide Demystifies Mobile Application and Device Management for Legal Aid Organizations

Ypsilanti, MI — February 11, 2026— A new practical resource designed to help legal aid organizations better manage mobile technology is now available to the access-to-justice community. The MAM and MDM Deployment Manual, a new guide created by ArchTech, is being released through the Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP) and is available free of charge to the broader legal services ecosystem.

Developed with funding from a Technology Initiative Grant (TIG) awarded by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), the guide introduces two critical — and often confusing — areas of mobile technology management: Mobile Application Management (MAM) and Mobile Device Management (MDM).

As legal aid organizations increasingly rely on smartphones and tablets to support remote work, client communication, and secure access to case information, understanding how to manage mobile apps and devices has become essential. This manual provides a clear, plain-language overview of what MAM and MDM are, how they differ, and how each can support security, privacy, and operational efficiency in legal aid environments.

“Legal aid staff are doing more work in more places than ever before, often on mobile devices that weren’t designed with our unique confidentiality and security needs in mind,” said Shellie Reid. “This guide helps organizations cut through the jargon and make thoughtful, informed decisions about mobile technology that support staff while protecting client data.”

The MAM and MDM Deployment Manual is designed for non-technical audiences and organizational decision-makers, including executive leadership, IT staff, and program managers. The guide explains key concepts, outlines common use cases in legal aid, and highlights considerations organizations should weigh when exploring or implementing mobile management solutions. The guide also takes IT Administrators through a step-by-step detailed deployment of these technologies using Microsoft 365’s Intune platform.

By making this resource available through LSNTAP, ArchTech aims to ensure that legal aid organizations of all sizes — regardless of in-house technical capacity — can better understand their options and adopt mobile technology practices that align with their mission and risk tolerance.
